CLC Tree Removal

As part of the ongoing efforts to prepare for our new roof, we will be removing the trees at the front, west side of the CLC. Over the years, these trees have grown significantly taller—now above the roof—and regularly drop organic debris, causing drainage problems and interior water damage. Flat commercial roofs work well, but only when free of debris and able to shed water quickly.
We understand the trees add beauty and character to the area, and we don’t take this decision lightly. However, after consulting with three different roofing contractors, including the one selected for the project, they were unanimous in their recommendation to remove the trees.
We have selected a qualified contractor to remove the trees and grind the stumps. This will be followed by a dirt work project to lower the soil height and further prevent water incursion. We will likely cover the area with grass sod in the short term, with future options including shrubs, bushes, or smaller trees. The larger trees on the north and south ends of the building also overhang the building and cause risk to the new roof, but they do not have to be removed and can simply be trimmed back.
We hope you’ll join us in seeing this as an important step in being good stewards of the property. Our goal is to create a landscape that enhances our space while remaining manageable and sustainable for years to come. Roof construction is expected to start this month and should be completed by the middle of October.
